John Challis was a junior at Freedom High School, Freedom, PA when he was diagnosed with Hepatocellular Carcinoma in June 2006.
Throughout his 2-year battle, John met and inspired many pro athletes and coaches from the MLB, NFL and NHL including Mario Lemieux, Ben Roethlisburger and Alex Rodriguez. His wonderful, positive outlook was a lesson to everyone, young and old, on how to live life to its fullest.
Although John lost this battle to cancer on August 19, 2008, his story continues to inspire others. It was John's wish to create a foundation to help others with life-threatening illnesses to share in similar experiences as he had to encourage and uplift them throughout their own journey.
Welcome to the John Challis Courage for Life Foundation.
High school athletes with life threatening illnesses are encouraged to apply for a Courage for Life sporting experience. We are excited that you are considering us to be a part of your journey!
Each year, the Courage for Life Foundation awards two scholarships in the amount of $2,500. We are now accepting applications for 2016. Deadline is February 15th.
This year's golf outing will be held on June 22, 2015 at Chartiers Country Club!
All proceeds raised at the events will go to the support of the foundation and its cause: providing life-encouraging experiences to high school athletes who face life-threatening illnesses.
Sponsorship packages are now available for purchase in our online store.
